Legendary Servers Mordor and Angmar:
The Veil of the Nine

[ German version
]
“The Veil of the Nine” is an event on the Legendary Servers Mordor and Angmar. It has special game mechanics unique to these servers. Please pass on this information, so Evil can be held in check :-)
Many thanks to my Mellyn kinsfolk on Mordor: Fangnir, Maelodee, Wigvald, Ashunsur, Daric and Elbion, as well as the people on the Mordor Nazgûl Announcer Discord. It’s a great tool for coordination. Do join this Discord if you play on Mordor, and the Angmar Community Discord if you play on Angmar!

Lore
The Nine Rings that were given to the Kings of Men corrupted their humanity and transformed them into terrifying monsters: the Nazgûl, or “Ringwraiths”. These demons roam Middle Earth at Sauron’s behest searching for ringbearers. They can be defeated but cannot die as long as the One Ring exists. So even after a defeat, they will return ...
Their servants are the Lesser Wraiths, who equally haunt the Free Peoples and seek to destroy their spirit and their hopes.

The "Veil of the Nine” Event
These servants of Sauron are the specialty of the Legendary Servers Mordor und Angmar. When playing here, you will encounter Lesser Wraiths, and sometimes the Nazgûl themselves. While the event is active (it has been so from server start), any enemy you defeat can spawn a Wraith, as long as this enemy is at least blue (that is, no more than 7 levels below you). Most of the time, such a spawn will be a Lesser Wraith (or in Moria, an Ork or Troll), but sometimes, a Nazgûl will appear and shroud the world in darkness.

The Wraiths
Fighting Wraiths is not trivial, and some classes have a harder time defeating them than others. The following tips may help you holding your own against them.
Types of Wraiths
There are four types of Wraiths:
- Shadowy Wraith, a Signature enemy (can appear from character level 1ß)
- Mournful Wraith, an Elite enemy (can appear from level 20)
- Harrowing Wraith an Elite Master enemy (can appear from level 30). Around it, the world turns dark, the Eye of Sauron appears, and you are afflicted by up to 5 Dread. Some classes can solo them, but they are clearly designed to be defeated by a (Small)) Fellowship. Don’t hesitate to call for help!
- Nazgûl, Rare Arch-Nemesis (can only be spawned by players near maximum level). The Nazgûl resemble the Harrowing Wraiths but are much stronger and command far more powerful attacks. They are Raid Bosses, and you need to bring people together to defeat them.
More useful things to know about the Lesser Wraiths:
- All Wraiths have a chance to spawn when a player character kills an NPC enemy. When playing in a group, the player who lands the final blow can spawn the Wraith.
- Wraiths always have the same level as the character that spawns it.
- Shadowy and Mournful Wraiths despawn after 5 minutes and Harrowing Wraiths after 10 minutes, if they are not defeated. After this time, they will simply disappear, even if you are still fighting them.
- Wraiths can appear in Landscape and Fellowship Instances. In Instances, though, they only appear at level 20 or higher because that's when all classes will have acquired an ability to remove corruption. This ability is crucial in Wraith fights.
- This is why Shadowy Wraiths automatically remove their corruption before level 20.
- Wraiths don’t appear in Raids. This is to protect intricate boss mechanics.
- Wraiths can appear in Solo Instances in some circumstances: if you are in a group, even if your group members are not with you in the instance, and if you play with Landscape Difficulty.
- Aura of Dread: All Wraiths, including Nazgûl, have Frightening Presence, an aura that emanates Dread and is not removable. With a Nazgûl, the Dread can become overwhelming. If you struggle, carry tokens.
Their aura and your debuff
- Wraiths of the same type have a spawn cooldown of 7 minutes. This means that if you spawn, e. g., a Mournful Wraith, you can’t spawn another Mournful Wraith for 7 minutes. However, you can still spawn another type of Wraith, or even a Nazgûl, in under 7 minutes.
Yes, they can spawn shortly one after another if they are different types. This Dynamic Duo said hello when I was questing all by myself in Forochel.
Corruptions
The Wraiths have “corruptions”, which are powerful, but removable buffs. There are two types of corruptions:
- Ward of Fear, which decreases incoming damage. All Wraiths possess this buff. It can stack up to tier V (= 5 stacks), at which you only do a meagre 10% damage to the wraith.
- Corruption of Strength, which increases their outgoing damage. Only Harrowing Wraiths have this buff. It can stack up to tier XX (= 20 stacks), at which the Wraith deals +100% damage.
So watch out for the buffs on the Wraiths! Another way to recognize their corruptions is a blue glow on the Wraith (see the pictures above).
The stronger the Wraith, the more important it is to remove these corruptions. Here you can find your class-specific Corruption Removal Skills.
Wraiths handle their corruptions in different ways:
- Shadowy Wraiths, from level 20, have one stack of Ward of Fear. Once removed, it doesn’t return.
- Mournful Wraiths have three stacks of Ward of Fear. Only one can be removed each time you use your removal ability.
- Harrowing Wraiths start out with five stacks of each type of corruption.:
Ward of Fear is present from the moment it spawns. If your Corruption Removal ability is ranged, you can remove it from a distance, still out of fight! Just stay as far away from them as possible and step back a little each time as soon as you have applied your ability. This is because the Wraith wanders around and can easily come just that tiny bit too close. You will still have to keep removing them during the fight, as they build it back up again.
Corruption of Strength only appears when they enter the fight. It quickly stacks up to tier XX if you don’t keep removing it. This is training for Nazgûl fights, where corruptions must constantly be removed as well.
The Wraiths can also apply a debuff that drains your Power. Cure it if you are a playing a Power-based class.
More Tips
- Use equipment and virtues that boost Tactical Mitigation. Important virtues are Tolerance and Fidelity. Resistance is less important here.
- Get good equipment. If you cannot get it from high-level instances or craft it, ask other players - usually there are always people who are happy to help.
- Amelia (see below under Rewards) sells buffs and jewellery with Shadow Protection and Tactical Mitigation in exchange for the Tattered Shadows dropped by the Wraiths. Shadowy Wraiths drop 2 Shadows, Mournful Wraiths drop 6, Harrowing 20.
- Playing with Landscape Difficulty will make Wraiths in landscape harder, but not in instances. Delving difficulty will also affect the Wraiths, though!
- Some classes like Beorning or Loremaster can handle Wraiths far more easily than others. But maybe that’s a welcome challenge for you? :-)
- Harrowing Wraiths are designed as Fellowship enemies. Also, they don’t attack for a couple of seconds, so you have time to put yourself at a safe distance and call for help. Use the /world channel to communicate their position - more on that below. Many players will be happy to help, even if it’s only for the 20 Tattered Shadows!
- Generally, if you can’t defeat a Wraith, you can always run. It will despawn by itself after some time.

Enemies in Moria
In the Mines von Moria, there are no Wraiths but Goblins, Orks and Trolls. The spawning mechanics are the same as with wraiths, but there abilities are different. There are three types:
- Skulking Goblin Assassin (Signature)
- Stalking Orc Executioner (Elite)
- Troll Titan (Elite Master)
These guys drop 2 - 6 - 20 Bounty Markers, which you can barter at Háfnir Skycloak in the Twentyfirst Hall, opposite the Bank and the Crafting Hall.
All of these enemies deal Orc-craft Damage, which ignores much of Armour and Physical Mitigation. You can boost your Physical Mitigation with the equipment sold by Háfnir. You may also want to use virtues with increase Physical Mitigation while questing in Moria, like Compassion and Innocence.
Here are their special abilities:
- Skulking Goblin Assassins: Often appear in pairs! They have no corruptions but a poisoned blade, which does Damage over Time. Cure it, and use Poison Resistance food.
They can also stun, which is a nuisance especially if you have to deal with a pair of them. - Stalking Orc Executioner: Starts with no corruptions but builds them up. A little into the battle, they acquire Vengeful Strikes tier V (= 5 stacks). With this corruption, when you damage them, they damage you back. If you don’t remove it, a second tier V corruption will appear. So, if you can’t defeat an Executioner quickly, take care of the corruptions!
- Trolltitan: The Titan has no corruptions but hits like a truck. He also has two special abilities that are no corruptions and cannot be removed:
- Concussion: Each attack has a 33% chance to apply a debilitating (disorienting) wound. It looks as though you wre drunk. Cure it.
- Battle: When the Troll Titan’s moral goes below a certain value (25%?), he goes berserk and deals +35% damage. (The tool tip should say either 135% or +35%.)
Abilities:
Debuffs:
(I think the plus-sign in the two debuffs should not be there.)

The Nazgûl
Sometimes, one of the Nazgûl will emerge from the shadows. Or, to put it more prosaically: A high-level player character will spawn it in the same way as the other special enemies, upon killing an NPC enemy. Nazgûl will spawn much more rarely though: only one per server every 24 to 36 hours.
There are two ways in which a Nazgûl can appear: directly in landscape or in a so-called “arena”. In this case, a blue portal, called “rift”, appears in the landscape, by which the arena can be accessed. More on that below.
Whenever a Nazgûl appears, a server-wide announcement calls everyone to the battle. From then on, time counts! From the moment it spawns, a Nazgûl will remain for 30 minutes and then despawn again, even if it is still in battle.
This is what the announcement of a landscape Nazgûl may look like:
And here is the announcement of a rift:

The Lesser Rings of Power
Nazgûl have a strong damage protection, represented by a circle of shields. This is their “Veil” that gives the server event its name. The shield can be brought down by player characters bearing one of the Lesser Rings. Yes, you can become a ringbearer!
The rings can be found in all sorts of booty containers: chests, cocoons, backpacks, bodies ... They materialise in your inventory as a very unspectacular “Mysterious Ring” item:
This item self-destroys after 5 minutes if you don’t use it! This ensures the rings remain in active use. So keep an eye out for them when plundering chests etc.
If you “use” the Mysterious Ring, a Lesser Ring emerges. Lesser Rings are legendary (golden) items. There are exactly 12 of them, and they are named: Amdirvinal, Angelevon, Bellassamdir, Edhelvain, Glîr, Gondren, Hestendur, Lamandil, Lindacelume, Nárendur, Nínael und Tinnuroch. They can only be found by high-level characters (5 levels away from level cap at maximum). If you find one, you become a Ringbearer!
The rings can be traded, and even mailed, to other players, and ideally, that’s what ringbearers should do before logging out. You can give or mail your ring to a friend or a kinnie who remains online, so it can be put to use, and trust them to return it to you later. The rings have powerful stats, though, so they may seduce the ringbearer into keeping their Precioussss for themselves ;-) If, however, everyone clings to their ring, chances are fewer ringbearers, or none at all, is online when a Nazgûl spawns, and that greatly diminishes everyone’s chance to defeat the enemy. Make your decision!
To remove a Nazgûl’s shield, a ringbearer must
- be high-level (5 levels at most below level cap),
- engage actively in the battle, doing damage or healing. Just being present won’t do.
The Lesser Rings will leave their owner after 10 days to return to the Shadows, and only turn up again the next day. So they are on an 11-day cycle. Also, they appear in one-day intervals, meaning only one ring per day can be found, with the exception of day 12 in the cycle, on which two rings can be found: no. 1 and no. 12. Thus, there can only ever be 10 Lesser Rings in use on a server at any given time.
The rings can drop starting from server reset time on a given day, and they have a 0,5% drop rate as long as a ring can still drop on that day.

Fighting a Nazgûl
The Basics
- Nazgûl have a cooldown of 24-36 hours, which can be prolonged by server downtime.
- They spawn like the nameless Wraiths from defeated enemies if the player character is no more than 5 levels away from level cap. This is why they can normally only spawn in high-level regions. As with the nameless Wraiths, the defeated enemy can not be more than 7 levels away from the player character level, that is, it must be at least blue. (I have never yet seen a Wraith or Nazgûl spawn from a green enemy.)
- A Nazgûl can spawn directly in the open landscape, or inside an “arena”. In this case, what appears in the landscape is a blue portal, or “rift”, by which you can enter the arena.
- A Nazgûl remains for exactly 30 minutes if it is not defeated. Then it returns to the Shadows.
- Sometimes Nazgûl appear in places where they can’t be fought, like size-restricted instances.
- When a Nazgûl or a portal spawns, go search for it. When you are near, the sky turns black, and a Warband icon will appear on the map:
- If you are a ringbearer, you can post your ring in world chat so people know the fight will probably successful! (Also to get invited to the correct layer. Layers are a thing when there are more than 50 player characters trying to get to the Nazgûl. In this case, new arrivals will be transferred to a new layer (or instance) of the region where there is no Nazgûl. More on that below.
- The Nazgûls’ Dread Aura Mortal Dread can be immense. Make sure you keep Hope up by using tokens and gear, e. g. from Amelia. Hope items will stack.
A Nazgûl’s Mortal Dread debuff
- A Nazgûl’s power can increase during the fight. It depends on its corruptions, which players must keep removing, and on the number of players participating in the fight. Thresholds are at 3 - 6 - 12 - 24 - 48 player characters. Above each threshold, the Nazgûl deals more damage and receives less, and can even unlock new evil abilities. The more players, the meaner the Nazgûl!
With 48+ players present, the Nazgûl ist “beleaguered” and unleashes its full power. It does 150% damage, receives only 25% damage, and its attack duration is reduced to 60%. This is not a corruption and can’t be removed.
- Do remove the corruptions!
This Nazgûl has stacked 20 Corruptions of Strength and now does double melée damage. Not good! Players need to use their Corruption Removal abilities.

Bekommt also keine Panik oder lauft kopflos weg.

% seiner Moral.
Links: gut - rechts: schlecht ;-)

- The Grim Southron: “Dawn of the South”
- The Forsaken Reaver: “Forsaken No More”
- The Gloom of Nurn: “A Light in the Gloom”
- The Black Blade of Lebennin: “the Blade-breaker”
- The Bane of Rhûn: “Saviour of Rhûn”
- The High Sorcerer of Harad: “the Sorcerer’s Downfall”
The remaining titles will be added when the Nazgûl enter the fray!
All titles are available account-wide, even across servers.
