Minas Elendúr and Delotham

Bewildering Ruins / Exploration from Top to Bottom

The quest “Bewildering Ruins” becomes accessible with Vol. III, Book 2, Chapter 6. It is part of the epic storyline around the Grey Company, where you assemble the Rangers and travel with them to Eregion. To unlock the quest, you must do all of Book 2 up to this point. You don’t need to do any previous books, but there is no shortcut within Vol. III, Book 2. The book starts at Elrond in Rivendell.
In Ch. 6, Fúsi Gem-cutter in Echad Eregion will ask you to find his missing father, Fúni. Your search will lead you to a door in Târ Stazg, which turns out to be the entrance to some ancient Elven ruins, Minas Elendur and the subterranean Delotham.
The quest unlocks the instances, and the door will remain open permanently for this character.

Upon entering, you find yourself in Minas Elendúr, the “Tower of Elendúr”, which is connected by many doors and secret passages to the ruins of Delotham, the “Chamber of Horror”, below it. You need not explore the whole area for the quest, but doing so constitutes a deed, "Exploration from Top to Bottom". If you will take it upon you, you’re in for a long search of the ruins and also some goose-bumpy moments, for the place is haunted ... (do you remember who was Antheron?) In the end, you are rewarded with a neat title!

The spirits don’t contribute to the deed, but they let you catch a glimpse of the last stand of the Elves of Eregion. Sometimes you have to wait for some time for them to appear. I have marked them on the map so you know where to look out for them. You do not need Erebrandir’s Horseshoe to see them.

My advice in case you have navigation issues: Start by ignoring the doors and only explore the large interconnected part of Minas Elendúr at first. Then switch to Delotham and do the same. Visit the smaller, more remote rooms in the end, when you have grown more familiar with the layout.

Lore

Sauron ass Antheron/Annatar

Sauron as Antheron/Annatar in the “Room of Dread”

Assuming the appearance of the beautiful and charismatic “Lord of Gifts”, Sauron went to Eregion and taught Celebrimbor and his Elves to forge rings of power. The Elven woman Bregoleth recalls this period in time in the beginning of the Epic in Swanfleet (Volume I, Book 1, Chapter 7). Later (Volume I, Book 14, Chapter 6) Narmeleth/Amarthiel recalls how Annatar seduced her, too, while she was living in Mirobel.
“Annatar” (anna “gift” + tar “lord”, “king”) is the Quenya name; “Antheron” (ant “gift” + heron “lord”, “master”) is a translation to Sindarin. Fun fact: Since the game designers had no permission to use the Silmarillion (the name “Annatar” only occurs here), they invented a Sindarin equivalent.

In S.A. 1697, after Celebrimbor had realised Sauron’s betrayal, the Ork armies overran Eregion and destroyed it. The Elves of Minas Elendúr were among the last to resist - they held their post until death to buy time for those who were fleeing. The Dwarves of Moria came to their aid, but in vain. The fall of Eregion led to the founding of Rivendell, and the Dwarves, facing this new threat, sealed the western door to Khazad-dûm.
