The Farmers Faire / Summer Festival

The Farmers Faire in 2026 ran from August 13 to September 8. The last full Faire day was September 7.
In 2020, the Farmers Faire was merged with the Summer Festival. All quests of both festivals can be found on this page.

I'm grateful for any tips or additions you may have - drop me an e-mail!

First thing every day of the festival, accept the daily meta-quest "A Sunny Faire Day" from Campanula Chubb. It rewards you for completing 10 daily festival quests and counts towards higher-tier meta-quests with nice rewards.
You'll find Campanula both by the Party Tree in Hobbiton and in the Bywater market square - however she manages that. Fast little feet!

Meta-Quests

The Farmers Faire Has Arrived (auto-bestowed)

Accept the quest and complete it right away.

Reward: 1 Farmers Faire Token, map to the Party Tree.

Participate in 10 Farmers Faire events!
Campanula Chubb can be found west of the Party Tree and at the market square of Bywater.

Fun at the Faire (Campanula Chubb)

Complete "A Sunny Faire Day" multiple times. Each tier used to be 5x10 dailies but has been adjusted to 4x10, so the full run of the meta quests now takes 12 days instead of 15, in accordance with the other festivals (except Anniversary, which takes 9). Thanks to egarthur for making me aware!

• Intro: Complete "A Sunny Faire Day" 4 times.
  Reward: 400 Figments of Splendour, 1 Scrap of an Essence Reclamation Scroll, 1 Universal Optional Crafting Ingredient, 1000 Virtue XP.
• Intermediate: Complete "A Sunny Faire Day" 4 times.
  Reward: 500 Figments of Splendour, 1 Scrap of an Essence Reclamation Scroll, 1 Universal Optional Crafting Ingredient, 1000 Virtue XP.
• Advanced: Complete "A Sunny Faire Day" 4 times.
  Reward: 600 Figments of Splendour, 1 Scrap of an Essence Reclamation Scroll, 1 Universal Optional Crafting Ingredient, 1000 Virtue XP.

This quest-line can be completed once during the festival.

The Figments of Splendour for this and the following quest end up in your wallet. They are server-bound and accessible account-wide and can be exchanged with curators or quartermasters for travelers/adventurers in Bree (Keilerbrunnen), Galtrev, the 21st Hall, and Skarháld (Ered Mithrin) for cosmetics, pets, and mounts.
You can only possess a maximum of 10,000 Figments of Splendour on a given server. Anything beyond that is lost. So spend them in time!

Salutation to Faire Days (Campanula Chubb)

Complete "Fun at the Faire" multiple times.

• Complete "Fun at the Faire" (Intro).
• Complete "Fun at the Faire" (Intermediate).
• Complete "Fun at the Faire" (Final).

Reward: 500 Figments of Splendour, 1 Scrap of an Essence Reclamation Scroll, 1 Universal Optional Crafting Ingredient, 15 Farmers Faire Tokens, 1 Incomparable Tracery Token

This quest can be completed once during the festival.

Quick Run

For a quick and easy run of the dailies, you can do the following quests, all in Bywater. It takes 15 minutes because that’s the timer for “Manning the Market”:

• Accept Manning the Market (accept it first because its timer runs longest),
• accept the daily wrapper,
• accept The Great Mathom Fishing Swap (auto-completes after 10 minutes),
• do Manning the Market (all sub-quests; that’s 7 quests in all),
• do Restocking the Market” / “Cotton’s Farm” (2 quests in one),
• wait for the timers of the “Mathom Fishing Swap” and “Manning the Market” to run out (fish some Mathoms if you want) and hand in the wrapper.

Thanks to Egarthur, who reminded me of the “Mathom Fishing Swap” and Phloxie, who reminded me of my own, inconveniently forgotten advice on “Restocking the Market” counting as two quests :-)

If you’re going for Faire Tokens, do the missing-things-quests and “Cooling Off” at the Party Tree, the Drunkard’s quest in Bywater, and the Staddle quests, which can all be done quickly. But especially do the Mushroom Hunt, which yields lots of tokens, if you can avoid the dogs.

At the Party Tree

A Tour of the Farmers Faire (Caltha Tunnelly)

Speak with, in order:

• Mayor Whitfoot in Bywater,
• Godo Bracegirdle at the fishing pond of Bywater,
• Festival Announcer Sperling Took in Bywater,
• Wymarc Grubb at Sandson's Farm (use the Bywater festival horse; you can take part in the Egg Scramble at the destination),
• Osbert Puddifoot at Bamfurlong (use the Bywater festival horse; you can take part in Farmer Maggot's Mushroom Hunt at the destination),
• the Festival Announcer in Bywater, to end the round.

Reward: 3 Farmers Faire Tokens.
This quest can be completed once during the festival.

Flying High (Hargold Hardbottle)

Hargold Hardbottle stands west of the Party Tree.
There are racks at various locations around the faire grounds where you can fly kites. Fly 5 kites! Locations:

• on the hill north of Bag End
• at the northeastern edge of the Appledores
• east of the Party Tree, on the hill with the campfire
• further east across the road, south of the small pond
• south of Gaffer Gamgee by the river

Reward: 4 Farmers Faire Tokens
This quest is repeatable daily.

Crash Landing (Lila Roper)

Lila Roper stands west of the Party Tree.
There are 6 crashed kites lying around the Party Tree! Collect them. Locations:

• west of Bag End
• in the Appledores
• on the path leading to Gaffer Gamgee
• by the barn south of Gaffer Gamgee
• at the bridge to Hobbiton
• east of the Party Tree across the road by the small pond

Reward: 4 Farmers Faire Tokens
This quest is repeatable daily.

Too Much Festival (Foxglove Tunnelly)

Foxglove Tunnelly stands southwest of the Party Tree.
Foxglove has lost her belongings in the festival hustle. Bring them back to her! Locations:

• Book: on the big rock near the entrance to the Party grounds
• Teapot: by the oven
• Twine: by the cat right at the Party Tree
• Wine: in the west of the faire grounds on a table
• Parasol: next to Gaffer Gamgee

Reward: 4 Farmers Faire Tokens
This quest is repeatable daily.

This quest does not count towards the 10 daily quests for "A Sunny Summer Day".

Going Hungry (Melilot Hayward)

Melilot Hayward is west of the Party Tree.
The worst thing that can happen to a hobbit has happened: Melilot has lost her food! Find it again, at these spots:

• Porridge: in front of Bag End
• Cheese: in the Appledores
• Mushrooms: by the pond east across the road
• Eggs: by the barn south of Gaffer Gamgee
• Bread: on the bridge to Hobbiton

Reward: 4 Farmers Faire Tokens

Cooling Off (Tansy Tighfield)

Tansy stands in the path northeast of the Party Tree.
Take the jug next to her and "delight" overheated revelers with a refreshing water fountain! The revelers are:

• east of the Party Tree
• south of the Party Tree
• southeast of the Party Tree on the road
• on the road shortly before the bridge to Hobbiton
• in Hobbiton near Dudo Chubb

Reward: 4 Farmers Faire Tokens

Defeat the Heat (Tansy Tighfield)

Defeat 5 Heat Waves that are causing mischief around the faire grounds.
You no longer need to "talk to" the Heat Waves like in previous years - simply attack them.

When the Party Tree is crowded, use ranged attacks. If you don’t have any ranged attacks that can be quickslotted, buy some Throwing Axes or Throwing Daggers. They are available from level 2 from Weapon Traders even in the starting areas, see here, on the right side. Drag the axes/daggers from your inventory to a quickslot on your action bars to hit the heat waves fast.

There is a Heat Wave at Bag’s End which few people go hunting, and another one patrolling on the road to Hobbiton. If the Party Tree is crowded, just come back a bit later, there is no timer.

Ice Delivery (Tansy Tighfield)

Blocks of ice lie in the north of the Party grounds in the cooking area. Take a block of ice and carry it to Bywater to Bluet Goldworthy, who runs an ice stand there. Avoid overheated hobbits and cats, as they shuffle around exhausted and will hold you up! Being stopped is not dramatic at all, though. You have ample time. I just take a bee-line to the Bywater bridge and across.

For an extra daily, stop for a second by Melia Pott at the Bywater Pond and accept The Great Mathom Fishing Swap. You can do that while carrying the ice block. You don’t need to fish, just accept it, confirm (!) and let the timer run out.

Frozen Sweet Cream (Bluet Goldworthy)

Bluet asks you to prepare a delicious ice cream for her friend Tansy. You can collect the ingredients here:

• frozen sweet-cream: at the ice stand
• fresh fruit: at the ice-stand
• honey: from the innkeeper at "The Green Dragon."

Mix the ingredients and bring the ice cream to Tansy Tighfield at the Party Tree.

Reward: 4 Farmers Faire Tokens

The Taste of Hobbiton (Bando Brandybuck)

The name is pure sugarcoating. In reality, some voracious hobbits have gathered for an contest in gluttony. Bet on Daffodilly Hayward, Burdy Gamwich, Gladdy Chubb-Baggins, or Mudric Rumble and win the bet!
There's nothing you can do to help the hobbit of your choice win the contest. Just cross your fingers!
You must not leave the area before the race is over, or the quest will fail.

Reward: 1-4 Farmers Faire Tokens if you lose, 6 Farmers Faire Tokens if you win
The race starts every 9 minutes, but the quest is only available once daily.

Deeds:

• Winning twice with each hobbit completes the deed "Ate Too Much," which also counts towards the meta-deed "Too Much of Everything".
• Winning once with each hobbit and each dwarf (in the dwarf race) completes the deed "A Lucky Day at the Races" and awards the title "Lucky Duck".

Planting the Seeds for Harvest (Amabel Redfern)

To be offered this quest, you must be a farmer, but not for the follow-up quest at the Harvest Festival.

Plant Amabel's seeds. To do this, learn the recipe she gives you and perform it from the crafting window on her small field.

Reward: Come back in autumn and see what your seeds have become!
This quest can only be completed once per year.

At Bywater

Bounder Rounds (Bounder Boffin)

Bounder Boffin makes sure everything runs in an orderly fashion in the Shire, as it should. During the Faire, he wants you to reprimand hobbits who can't behave themselves. You can recognize them by the fact that they talk nonsense. Pay close attention to what they say, but don't reprimand sober faire-goers!

You can scold the same misbehaving hobbit twice in a row if you're quick enough!.

You do not need to activate speech bubbles in the options, as some guides claim. That setting is only needed if you want to see text “said” by player characters above their heads, not text by NPCs.

This quest combines very well with "A Fat Mayor," since you have a lot of waiting time between the mayor's courses that you can use this way.

Reward: 3 Farmers Faire Tokens.
Repeatable daily from 9 AM. If you fail, you can immediately accept the quest again.

Revenge of the Drunkards (Drunkard)

If you've mastered the previous quest, you can help the drunk hobbit in the northeast of the market square take revenge on the bounders. Talk to him and drink the mug of beer he's holding. Now you’re good to go. You mustn't get caught, so sneak over the rooftops in the north to the fence in the west next to the market stall. This is an excellent spot to pelt Bounder Boffin (eye icon on the map) with the rotten vegetables the drunkard slipped you. Of course, you didn't hear that from me.

A tip from Polymachos: "You can also pelt the nameless bounder who patrols the market. If it's too hard to target him (due to a certain lack of visual clarity), you can click the eye icon representing him on the minimap, and the vegetables can be delivered by air mail."

To see the eyes, you must select the "Prevents Quest" option in the minimap filter.

You can also turn off the post-processing effects in the options under advanced graphics options. You will still stagger, but you'll be able to see much better.

Repeatable daily from 9 AM. If you fail, you can immediately accept the quest again.

Fat Mayor (Will Whitfoot (Mayor))

The mayor won't stop eating, but not everything is to his taste. You're to help him perfect the food. If that isn't a job for a hobbit!
Stand at the small table with the ingredients and listen carefully to what the mayor says. You have some time to think, so don't rush it - but you may only bring him a wrong ingredient twice at most!

Reward: 5 Farmers Faire Tokens.
Repeatable daily from 9 AM. If you fail, you can immediately accept the quest again.

Manning the Market (Daisy Sandyman)

This quest-line is repeatable daily.

Ms. Sandyman has many customers and needs help. Try to complete as many orders as possible!

Your time-limit is 15 minutes (for all 6 sub-quests), but you’re fine if you accept the last order in time. After that, you'll have all the time in the world to finish it. Thanks to Daric of Mordor for this tip!

Completion of the quest is only registered while you're online. This is important becauses if you finish early, the timer still runs to the end. If you log out while your shift is still running, and only log back the next day after reset, you won't be able to accept the quest again that day. So either wait until the shift is over, or log in before reset on the next day for it to complete.
If you don’t log out between completion and reset, you may need to do so to make the quest available again.

You can only serve one of the six customers at a time. So if you don't see rings above customers' heads, there's probably still an unfinished task - check your current order.

The time limit is generous. Until you know the ingredients by heart, use the coloured lists below.

Apple-shopping

Dig through the apple crates behind Ms. Sandyman's counter until you have collected all the apples you need. You can find them in any of the three crates, and you can get them all from one and the same crate.
Keep any apples you don't need for the next day.

Fresh Savoury Mushroom Stew

If you fail, you can immediately accept the quest again.

You have to get very close to the ingredients to "find" them! As if you'd suddenly become nearsighted. But I must admit: with all those treats, my eyes get a bit blurry too sometimes.
The ingredients only become active when it's their turn, so you can't go wrong with the order.

• Recipe (on the table by the oven in the south)
• Beef (at the meat stand in the southeast)
• Salt (on the table by the oven)
• Water (at the well in the center)
• Carrots (at the vegetable stand in the northeast)
• Bacon (at the meat stand in the southeast, on the shelf in the back)
• Mushrooms (in front of the mushroom tent south of Bywater)
• Cook everything in the pot by the oven in the south.

A Nosey Request

Find three hobbits who would rather laze about than help at the Faire! If someone isn't currently present because they've just been reprimanded, wait a short moment. They'll take the next best opportunity to keep loafing.

• Ernwyd Bolger is in the Green Dragon behind the beer barrels behind the bar
• Alric Hornblower snores in the mushroom tent southeast of Bywater
• Opalessa Sandheaver is dancing on the Methel-stage southwest of Bywater

A Shopping List

If you fail, you can immediately accept the quest again.

You'll find the shopping list in your inventory as soon as you accept the quest. Gather the items in any order (here counterclockwise around the market):

• Cheese (mild, the left one)

Each of the 6 quests, as well as the overall quest, counts toward the daily 10 quests for "A Sunny Summer Day. Overall, you can complete 7 dailies here in a very short time.

Restocking the Market (Sperling Took)

Repeatable daily. If you fail, you can immediately accept the quest again.
You can only complete one of the tasks on the list per day.

The suppliers are taking their time. Fetch the missing market goods for Sperling Took!
For each task you have a limited amount of time (9 minutes for Northcotton Farm, otherwise 5 minutes), which at normal running speed can sometimes be quite tight since you can't ride while carrying the goods. Sperling Took slips a "mysterious pie" into your pack for this, which lets you run faster. Use it! You can drag the pie from your inventory onto a hotkey-bound spot on your action bars so you can keep eating while you run.
You can jump and even swim with the goods without losing them. Swimming is also sped up by the pie. However, if you jump from too great a height you'll take normal fall damage, causing you to run slower.

You may want to turn on name display so you can find the items more easily (press N).

To Bamfurlong: Restocking the Mushroom Tent

You have 5 minutes. Farmer Maggot's farm is southeast of Woodhall. To get there, just use the Faire Pony next to the Festival Announcer. Then run south through the cornfield to the farm and head east from the centre of the farm. The mushroom baskets are next to Farmer Maggot.

To the Appledores: Restocking the Apple Stall

You have 5 minutes. The Appledores are the apple-tree orchard west of the Party Tree. The apple baskets are by the northeast corner.

To Budgeford: Restocking the Bacon

You have 5 minutes. Budgeford lies east of Bywater, past Frogmorton. The meat shop is just north of the ford, on the left. The meat basket is on the ground.

To Cotton's Farm: Restocking the Cabbages

You have 5 minutes. Tolman Cotton's farm (he is Rosie’s father) is just a short distance south of Bywater, southeast of the mushroom tent. The cabbage baskets are in the garden, on the steps.

To Sandson's Farm: Restocking the Eggs

You have 5 minutes. Sandson's Farm lies north of Michel Delving and northwest of Waymeet. For the trip there you can use the Pony next to the Festival Announcer. The egg basket is right next to Farmer Sandson.

To Longo Burrow's Farm: Restocking the Pipe-weed

You have 5 minutes. Longo's Farm lies a bit east of Tuckborough. The pipe-weed basket stands at the north gate of the shed.

To the Beehives: Restocking the Honey

You have 5 minutes. The honey is at the beehives on the road from Tuckborough to Woodhall, south of Bywater.

To Northcotton Farm: Restocking the Wine

You have 9 minutes. Northcotton Farm lies just past the border of the Shire and Evendim, west of Oatbarton. If you know the stable-master, you can take a swift ride from Hobbiton directly to Oatbarton. Otherwise, take a stablemaster to Brockenborings and ride or run north from there.
As soon as you pass into Bullroarer's Sward, you'll see a path to the left leading up the cliffs to Northcotton Farm. The wine barrels are up there, just in front of the hedge gate.

Reward for each: 4 Farmers Faire Tokens.

This quest counts twice toward the 10 daily quests for "A Sunny Summer Day"! Once for the individual task itself, and once for helping Sperling.

Deed: For completing all of Sperling’s tasks, you'll receive the title "Helping Hand."

Eggs and Mushrooms

Sandson’s Egg Scramble (Wymarc Grubb at Sandson’s Farm)

Sandson's Farm lies southwest of Hobbiton, towards Little Delving. His farmhand has you and your fellow players search for white and colored eggs. If you find five white eggs, you've passed the quest. In between, colorful eggs keep appearing, which you can collect for deeds. Unfortunately there are also rotten eggs, which are worthless.

This is a notoriously terrible quest. Most egg hunters only pick up the good eggs. But if the rotten ones aren’t cleared away, the good ones will eventually stop spawning. If someone takes pity and clears them, they get punished because meanwhile the others scoop up the newly spawned good eggs. You can try to make an agreement with your fellow players that everyone helps clear away the rotten eggs. That way, there is even a chance that everybody wins. It’s still hard with both less and more than two players.

Picking up Rotten Eggs blurs your vision, like being drunk. To avoid that, deactivate the “post-processing effects” in the options.

The colorful eggs can be traded with other players for deeds, but not the golden egg. However, for the deeds you must "use" the eggs, which destroys them.
Other eggs you don't need can be traded for Faire Tokens.

Reward: 10 Farmers Faire Tokens.
Titles: Novice Scrambler (5 wins); "the Eggsellent" (10 wins).
This quest can only be played once daily, even if you fail.

Deeds:

• Collect and use 5 colored eggs (red, green, blue, yellow, purple) - 5 Farmers Faire Tokens
• Collect and use 5 dotted eggs (yellow-blue, blue-red, red-green, pink-purple, purple-orange) - 5 Farmers Faire Tokens
• Collect and use 5 striped eggs (white-blue, yellow-red, red-green, pink-purple, purple-orange) - 5 Farmers Faire Tokens
• Collect and use the Golden Egg - 20 Farmers Faire Tokens

Maggot's Mushroom Hunt (Osbert Puddifoot)

Maggot's farm Longbottom lies on the western bank of the Brandywine, south of Stock. You must collect 5 mushrooms without the dogs spotting you, or you fail. After you have picked up 5 mushrooms, you can go for more for deeds or tokens; running into a dog will then just complete the quest and not let you pick up any more mushrooms.

The dogs are shown on the minimap as eyes once it begins. You might know this from various Shire starter quests (curious and gluttonous hobbits ...)

The mushrooms have different effects:

• Black-heart Mushroom: Paranoia (is this the one that makes Nazgûl and other dreadful beings appear?, 30s)
• Green Spotted Mushroom: Diminutive (you shrink, 1m)
• Mud-wren Mushroom: Sluggishness (-30% run speed, 30s)
• Red-cap Mushroom: Quickening (+ 25% run speed. 30s)
• Red Spotted Mushroom: Giant (you grow, 1m)
• Skunk-cap Mushroom: Stinky (green stinky aura, 30s)
• Violet Delight Mushroom: Whoa ... (resistance: involuntary emotes, 30s)
• White Mushroom: no effect

Extra mushrooms can be sold for additional Faire Tokens. You get 1-2 tokens per mushroom

Reward: 10 Farmers Faire Tokens,
Title "Novice Mushroom-Hunter" (5 wins),
Title "Mushroom-muncher" (10 wins, including the 5 from tier 1).
This quest can now only be played once daily, even if you fail.

Deeds:

• Maggot’s Mushroom Victories, tier 1: 5 wins
• Maggot’s Mushroom Victories, tier 2: 10 wins, including the 5 from tier 1

Seasonal Instances

The Perfect Picnic (Instance Finder)

Access

Access to this adventure is via the Instance Finder under "Seasonal."
The minimum level for access is 10.
The instance can be played solo or in groups of 3/6/12 players.

Walkthrough

Talk to Fosco Farfield and Will Whitfoot. Your task is to load the pony Penny with picnic delicacies and guide her safely to the picnic spot.

The two checkpoints along the way (river and watering hole) are safe places to refresh. Along the way, groups of heat waves and mirages keep trying to stop you. In combat, worry less about the pony than about yourself - Penny is more or less immortal. Tactical defense helps against the elemental damage; if you are still having trouble, let Penny take the first blows. Once the enemy's blue bar is empty, you take significantly less damage.

Some Fire Grims have a reflection aura. With these, you can kill yourself fast with your own damage!

Between the checkpoints, there are the following side quests:

• Get rid of chatty hobbits so they don't hold you up (you can also simply skip this),
• collect carrots for the pony,
• clear clover from the road.

At both checkpoints, you must activate the Festival Banner in order to continue.

Once you arrive at the picnic spot, you must defend the picnic! Step onto the picnic blanket to start it. The attackers must not be allowed to reach the blanket unhindered. They come one after another:

• hungry hobbits (from all sides) - target quickly and click the icon in the quest overview. If that's not fast enough, you can create a shortcut macro. To do this, for example, type in chat:
  /shortcut 1 /slap
  Here the "1" stands for the 1 slot on your action bar, in the example key 1 on the base bar. You can also use any other key. Now you can click on the hobbits and quickly hit your key alongside it. That's noticeably faster.
• hungry bugs (from the west) - attack before they reach the blanket.
• Incoming rain (from the north) and, as the final boss, Cloudburst (from the south) - likewise: just attack to get their attention.

You don't need to rescue all the treats, but I suspect at least one has to survive at the end for the instance to be passed.

Now you can claim the last Festival Banner for yourself, eat in peace, and loot the picnic basket (don't forget!) before finishing the instance.

There are 8 optional skirmish encounters left and right of the path, 4 of which you'll come across during a single run:

• Heat Wave (Flame-armor)
• Perspire (Fire-grim)
• Hallucination (Troll)
• Illusion (Snapping Toad)

By defeating every enemy at least once while they are at least green (not more than 8 levels below your own char level), you'll complete a deed (see below).

Thanks to the checkpoints (see above), you have plenty of time to defeat these enemies without Penny running off from you. But even if this happens, just let her, she can take care of herself.

You'll find the encounters in four locations:

• shortly after the start behind the little gate to the right (Woodhall),
• at the first rest point across the river (Bandit territory),
• after the second rest point behind the bridge, along the small path to the left (old Odo's kitchen garden),
• shortly before the perfect picnic spot, past the hill on the left.

Reward

Reward for completing the instance: 8 Farmers Faire Tokens and 5 Faire Tokens, which you can exchange with Verbena Greenhand northwest of the Party Tree for special items.

This instance is repeatable once daily for every group size. That means you can collect these special Faire Tokens 4 times per day.

Challenge: The Whole Picnic

The Challenge, for all group sizes, is: Have a grand picnic without losing any food! You can only complete the Challenges at level cap.

Boss from the Vaults: Thrâng (Instance Finder)

The fire-orc Thrâng dwells in Angmar in the Rift of Nûrz-Ghâshu. Access for the faire is via the Instance Finder under "Seasonal." It's a 6-player instance.

Thrâng's level will be between level 50 and the current level cap, depending on your group.

At the entrance to the instance there is a book called "Memories of Thrâng” that grants the quest for the instance.

The course of the fight is not entirely identical to the "normal" run of the instance in the Rift. In particular, the giant isn't present, and new waves keep coming throughout the fight.

The fight can seem very chaotic. Pay close attention to the following:

• The Defilers’ inductions should, and Thrângs induction “Rage and Fury”must be interrupted.
• Don't stand in red puddles or lava. (This should go without saying.)
• The tank should, if possible, gain stun immunity, which should be maintained.

Starting the fight

• The group stays at the foot of the stairs.
• The tank runs up the stairs to trigger the fight, and comes straight back down.
• The tank should throw taunts to Thrâng, so he doesn’t come for the healer.
• Thrâng initially stays up top, throwing and shooting things at the group, while his orcs attack the group in melee.
• When the Defiler falls, Thrâng comes down the stairs with the next orc wave and things get really unpleasant. So kill the Defiler last or last but one, so you're not overrun. Don’t put DoTs on him before (almost) everyone else is down.
• TIMING: If the Defiler lives too long, he does an AoE induction that can only be countered by a Fellowship Maneuver and may kill squishy characters instantly.

Main phase and fight mechanics:

• The fumaroles in the room explode when approached. This triggers an area-damage effect that hits both the group and enemies alike. This is the most important mechanic in this fight.
• Thrâng has a shield that blocks all damage to him. It's recognizable by a yellow buff icon: . Only the fumaroles' area damage can remove the shield, for 15 seconds.
• Once the enemies are sufficiently thinned out, the tank pulls Thrâng to a fumarole. The group follows, but stays a safe distance from the area damage.
• As soon as Thrâng's shield falls, he is immediately pulled away from the fumarole again, so the group's melee fighters don't take damage from the area effect.
• The group now goes full damage on Thrâng.
• As soon as the shield reappears, thin out the remaining orcs so there aren't too many, while the tank puls Thrâng to the next fumarole.
• Repeat this until he falls.
• Any Summoners that appear should be mezzed. if possible, otherwise they will add enemies to the fight.
• Any Scrappers that appear should be off-tanked if the tank can’t take more damage (having to take the damage from Thrâng and the Fumaroles already).
• TIMING: Thrâng keeps flinging a stacking bleed on the group that will become unhealable if the fight lasts too long.

Rewards

For completing the instance: 1 Thrâng Coin, 0-4 Farmers Faire Tokens, a chance at a cosmetic, a level-scaled blue jewelry piece, or an epic bag item.
You can trade the coins with the barterer at the Party Tree in Hobbiton (near the ice blocks) for cosmetic weapons and armor modeled after the Rift sets.

This quest is repeatable daily.

Deed: Fuming Fumaroles

You don’t need to run the instance at level cap to complete this deed.

Let 35 fumaroles explode during the fight!

Coins of the Rift (Campanula Chubb)

Collect 7 Forged Rift-iron Coins from Thrâng!
The coins can only be collected on tier 2 of the Seasonal Instance, not the “regular” Rift. Every run yields one coin, so you need to do seven runs.

Reward: 1 Legendary Tracery Token, 400 Figments of Splendor, 1000 Virtue XP.
This quest can only be completed once during the festival.

Fishing Quests

General Tips

All fishing quests start at the Bywater Pool.

You don't need a high fishing skill or special equipment for any of these quests. Anyone can fish along. Positioning is irrelevant for most quests (as long as you stand near the water) For a few quests, you need to pay a bit of attention to your position.
All fishing quests are entirely down to luck and have nothing to do with your fishing skill.

Most quests reset at the usual time. Exceptions are the fishing quests "Big and Small Fish" and "Fishing for Fresh Fish", which run on their own 24-hour timer. Thanks to Amrundir for pointing this out to me!

If you fail a fishing quest, you can trade the fish you no longer need with Godo Proudfoot for Farmers Faire Tokens.

If you are new to fishing, learn it right on the spot at the fisherman's hut from Hobby Master Brago Puddifoot. You can buy a fishing rod from Mitzi Bolger right next to him. Now open your character window and select the "Hobbies" tab at the bottom. There you'll find the fishing skill, which you can drag onto your action bars. Equip your fishing rod, stand by the water, and use the fishing skill. Watch the bobber. When a fish bites, use the fishing skill again. See what you've caught!

Belongings Gone Fishing (Mosco Smallburrow)

Mosco stands by the fishing hut at Bywater pond.

This isn't a fishing quest, but it does at least involve an angler. Mosco boasts that he caught a gigantic fish, which then allegedly dragged him around the pond. In the process he lost his belongings, even - oh horror! - his snack. Help him find everything again!
If you walk counterclockwise around the pond, then a bit inland on the far shore and back over the bridge to Mosco, you'll find in order:

• Mosco's Fishing Pole
• Mosco's Cloak
• Mosco's Elevensies Meal (on a wall by the huts)
• Mosco's Lucky Bait (in a field northwest of the bridge)
• Mosco's Hoe (at the bridge)

Fish Goldie's property out of the pond so she can sleep peacefully again:

Big Fish, Little Fish (Bollo Bolger)

Catch 7 Big Fish, but no more than 4 Puny Fish.
I've bolded this because Mr. Bolger seems to mumble a bit at this point: you must NOT catch 5 small (= puny) fish. As soon as you catch the 5th puny fish, the quest fails.

Tip: Unfortunately it doesn't help to abandon this quest once you already have 4 puny fish, hoping to accept it again. That doesn't work; as with quest failure, you then have to wait 24 hours before you can try again.

Repeatable after 24 hours.

Fishy. Very Fishy. (Flobert Chubb)

In this quest chain, you must, one after another, catch a certain number of a certain type of fish - but not the Bad Fish! It's pure luck whether you succeed. Although ... who knows? Maybe you could give luck a little nudge. It probably doesn't hurt to carry a certain horseshoe in your bag. The developers have denied that it increases fishing skill, but have said nothing about fishing luck. I doubt it helps - but who am I to know for sure?

If the wrong fish keep biting, try a different spot on the bank, or walk away from the pond a bit and back again.

You must catch, in this order:

• 10 Easy Fish
• 10 Simple Fish
• 10 Possible Fish
• 10 Tricky Fish
• 10 Unlikely Fish.

I don't know anyone who's managed this. Someone once calculated the probability - it's abysmal. Honestly, save your time and play lotto instead.

This quest is repeatable after 24 hours.

Hired Hook (Petunia Hornblower)

Petunia Hornblower is supposed to catch fish for the family dinner, but really doesn't trust herself at all. You'll pretty much have to do everything for her if you want to help her.

• First, dig up 5 worms across the bridge and put them in the bait-bucket.
• Then spear a worm from the bait-bucket onto the hook.
• Next, catch 5 Dinner Fish. (Every hobbit in Bywater knows dinner fish are best caught on the dock or north of it.)
• Now bring the fish to Petunia's brother Hal Hornblower in Hobbiton. He stands by the Stable-master.
• It's probably wise to decline any further tasks from Petunia for the time being.

Reward: 4 Farmers Faire Tokens.
This quest is repeatable daily.

The Great Mathom Fishing Swap (Melia Pott or Billard Pott)

Melia Pott stands at the Bywater pond. Billard Pott is at the Party Tree.
You have 10 minutes to fish mathoms out of the pond.

This quest is only offered once you've learned fishing.

The quest ends automatically after 10 minutes, and you receive the reward even if you don't fish at all.

You can conveniently pick up this quest while carrying the ice-block to Bywater for Ice Delivery.

Reward: 4 Farmers Faire Tokens.

Stocking the Pond (Neddie Grubb)

Neddie Grubb stands at the fishing pond in Bywater.

You're to restock the fishing pond with new fish from foreign lands! Then bring these fish to Neddie:

• 3 Drum from the lake in Chetwood, south of Bree and east of Pierson's Farm (talk to Will Hindmarsh)
• 3 Amberjack from the fishing pond inside Thorin's Hall, west of the main hall (talk to Láfi)
• 3 Luillim at the docks of Celondim (talk to Gaellien)

Reward: 6 Farmers Faire Tokens for each location.
You can barter the special fish with the quartermasters at all fishing spots for rewards.

Staddle Calls For Aid

This vector quest from Humbert Thornburrow in Bywater isn't mandatory, but it counts toward the 10 daily faire quests. Since you have to pass by the Party Tree or Bywater anyway to accept the daily meta-quest, you might as well pick it up. Also, the title is epic.

Staddle Besieged (Constable Tanglerush)

This is its own wrapper quest that, while not a prerequisite, gives you an extra 10 Farmers Faire Tokens for completing the other six Staddle quests. It also counts towards the 10 daily faire quests. So you can complete seven faire quests and earn 35 tokens in Staddle in a short time.

In a cave southeast of the village center, shrews and cave-claws have taken hold and have already stolen some villagers' belongings. Some hobbits have also gotten lost there. Rush to help!

Kick out the Cave-claws (Maginard Foxbolt in the centre of Staddle)

Take a pair of claw-stomping boots from the chest before you leave for the cave!
The chest stands a little apart from Maginard by a small workbench.

Then head into the cave and drive the cave-claws out of their dens! To do this, move close to a cave-claw, target it, and then "use" the boots. You can use them directly from your inventory or drag them onto your action bar.

The cave-claw will soon reoccupy its den, but in the meantime you can loot it. You'll mostly find old vegetables and rotten apples, but sometimes also nice things like pipe-weed or dyes. Rumor has it there's even cosmetics and cosmetic pets to be found!

You can use the same cave-claw den multiple times, once the owner returns.

This quest completes automatically and doesn't need to be turned in.

In Bree-land

Fireworks for the Festival (Robert Greenverge)

Robert Greenverge is at the Bree-land Festival Grounds. Take the Festival Steed next to the Stable-master of West-Bree to get there. He asks you to bring him one firework from every race. You have one hour.

These fireworks can be bought from vendors at the respective Festival areas. They are also available in gift boxes during the Anniversary Festival. If you've already collected them, you won't need to buy them. Otherwise, you can get them here:

• Man firework: Alger Hazelhurst right there at the Bree-land Festival Grounds
• Hobbit firework: Glad Goodbody by the Party Tree
• Elf firework: Dringil in the Festival Garden in Duillond

The race starts every 9 minutes, but the quest is only repeatable once daily.

Deeds:

• Winning twice with each dwarf completes the deed "Much Drinking, Much Running", which also counts towards the meta-deed "Too Much of Everything".
• Winning once with each dwarf and each hobbit (at the hobbit eating contest) completes the deed "A Lucky Day at the Races" and awards the title "Lucky Duck".

Housing and Dyes

Housing decorations are admirably exhibited by the experts of D&co du Milieu.

In even years you can buy Rohan Green and Sunset Orange from vendors at the Party Tree for Farmers Faire Tokens, and Shire Peach and Dark Clay for Mithril Coins. In odd years it's exactly reversed. So it's best to always stock up for two years on the dyes you can get for Faire Tokens.

Cosmetics 2026

The theme of the High-land Pastures certainly suggests Scottish flair, and the companion fits that very well, although it wears a hat so we can’t see its horns. But what goes with the garments? They look like straight from the Alps, and while the Trousers are not quite a Lederhos’n, the cut is not far off. What a mix :D I’m in love with it.
All pieces are embellished with what could be barley or rye.
No shoes come with the outfit; bring your own. If you aren’t a Hobbit. Except if you are a Stoor.
Every piece - Shirt and Skirt, Tunic, Hat, and Pack - costs 45 Farmers Faire Tokens. They can all be dyed.

Here are the sets on Hobbits, because a kinnie was in doubt if that would look good. See for yourself! I mean, if anything looks like the Hobbit trousers from the films, it’s this!

In the Highlands, of course, we need a goat: the Goat of High-land Pastures! It’s yours for 80 Farmers Faire Tokens.

The High-land Calf, as mentioned before, wears a hat (which I want! It’s nicer than mine!) so we can’t see if it has proper Angus cattle horns. It’s friendly though, and loves its hat too, so I’ll let it keep it.
It costs 60 Farmers Faire Tokens.

Finally, there’s a dazzling Lush Grodbod Protector. It’s a bit the “thing that is not like the others” here, but I like it!
It costs 20 Festivity Tokens (the Coins you get from the Seasonal Instances).

And that’s it! A pretty and simple outfit that is well suited for everyday roleplay.

Cosmetics 2025

The Apple-picker's Garments is a cheerful outfit in fresh apple-green with accessories of red apples. Very pretty! The light green parts can be dyed.
The hat is a sensation!

The Apple-picker's Steed carries four baskets full of apples. It's a very pretty steed in itself - but why does one practically sit on its neck? For 80 Farmers Faire Tokens I can expect to sit on its back like a respectable hobbit!

The new companion is a little Dark Grey Goat, ready to travel the world with you.

There are no new rewards for the Faire Tokens from the Seasonal Instances this time.

Cosmetics 2024

The Fine Garments of the Potato Farmer are one big celebration of the po-ta-to. And about time too.
Each piece costs 45 Farmers Faire Tokens, and all can be dyed (the light parts, or the ribbon on the hat).

The Potato Farmer's Fine Steed, which costs 80 Farmers Faire Tokens, carries two huge sacks of potatoes that are literally bursting at the seams:

The farmer also gets an impressive companion for 60 Farmers Faire Tokens: the Potato Farmer's Fine Cow.

This year, we got the Garments of the Blazing Firmament. I still have to buy it; until then, I'll refer you to the preview images from SSG.

Cosmetics 2022

The Innkeeper’s Dress is one of my favourites. I've had this dress for ages. Dyed blue, it's Berries' everyday outfit. No idea where I got it before it showed up as a Farmers Faire reward. The original color here of the Farmers Faire reward is red. A really lovely roleplaying outfit.

The Mushroom Nether-hound looks at you with an expression of total love and devotion. He’s adorable. Just look at him!

And here’s someone else: the Feed-laden Donkey - pretty tall, at least when you’re a hobbit. He always looks as if he were smiling :-)

Cosmetics 2021

The Garments of the Green Grocer consist of a Tunic, a Cloak, and Boots, and there's also a matching Steed. I haven’t bought this yet, so I'll refer you to lotrofoundry.com, which is also the source of this image. All pieces can be dyed.

Cosmetics 2020

To me, the dress of the Shimmering Breeze Garments looks less like a fresh summer breeze and more like a somewhat heavier, elegant autumn outfit. Either way, it suits the Farmers Faire well. The brownish parts can be dyed.

Cosmetics 2019: Summer Festival

The Garments of Summer’s Night (Tunic Set and Cap) are a pretty outfit, and even prettier, I think, when dyed. I’m adding it in Turquoise dye. The cap cannot be dyed, alas!
The outfit has a firefly pattern (spots of light and delicate wing ornaments) and a touch of Orient through the cap, which looks a bit like a turban..
The Cloak of the Light-wisps is also available hood-less.

The Firefly Lantern is transparent, and the tiny fireflies in it can be seen moving. It doesn’t give any ambient light, though.

Cosmetics 2019: Farmers Faire

For the Farmers Faire, there were two hats: the Straw Sun Hat with Ribbon (top) and the Short-brimmed Straw Sun Hat (bottom), plus the Ascot Scarf. It slots as a shoulder-piece, and it’s small, but can give any outfit a cool casual note.
Here, the pieces are combined with the Picnic Dress from last year.

Cosmetics 2018: Summer Festival

The Peacock Garments consist of Dress, Waistcoat, Trousers, Cap and Bonnet. The blue parts and the centre part of the Waistcoat can be dyed; the parts with the feather decoration will keep their colour. There is no cloak.
The Bonnet is quite unique and could be used, e. g., to roleplay a wealthy woman or a noblewoman.
Each piece costs 45 Farmers Faire Tokens.

There were four companions this year: a Green Peackock and a Blue Peacock. I only bought the Peacocks; the Hens look similar, just without the long tail feathers.

Here we have the cheerful Sunflower Outfit: Dress, Tunic, and Cloak. The Dress comes with long, short, or no sleeves; the Tunic with long or short sleeves. The cloak has two versions, hooded and hoodless. Everything can be dyed, only the sunflowers remain unchanged.

Cosmetics 2017: Farmers Faire

At the Farmers Faire, we only got one piece: the Cloak of the Harvest Sky, with or without a hood. It costs 35 Farmers Faire Tokens.
It’s hard to combine; here I used it with Corunir’s Robe from the Angmar Epos, dyed in Olive Green. The cloak can be dyed too, though, and you’d be surprised how nice it looks in some stronger/darker tones (try the Blues), or what Rose Dye does to it. Experiment!

There used to be a matching Goat of the Harvest Sky, but it’s no longer available, not even for Mithril.

Cosmetics 2016: Summer Festival

This is a curious set. The Summer Sea Garments consist only of a Cloak and a Mantle. They are lovely, but there is no chest piece, and for a long time, I couldn’t find anything to go with them. Finally, the 2026 Midsummer Festival gave us the Tunic and Trousers of the Flowering Sun. This works nicely with the set in the original colour! The shoes are Madfurrs End from the Misty Mountains.
Each set piece costs 45 Farmers Faire Tokens.

This year's cosmetics were hilarious: the Mantle and Cloak of the Farmer’s Table. They’re made from a tablecloth! They can be dyed and cost 35 Farmers Faire Tokens each.

Cosmetics 2015: Summer Festival

There were only three cosmetic items in this year: the Surcoat of Nárië with a matching cloak, available with or without a hood. All items can be dyed; the shirt will remain green, as will the brown parts of the cloak.
I’ve always thought the surcoat is a very nice outfit for adventuring!
Nárië is the name of the sixth month of the year in Quenya, derived from a word for the sun, since it was the first summer month.

Cosmetics 2015: Farmers Faire

This is a beautiful outfit: the Surcoat of the Yield. The ornaments depict some field fruits, but since they are kept quite abstract, the item can be very well used as a traveller’s robe or some Beorning or Dunlending vestments.
The surcoat is complemented by a pack (a back piece) in the form of a Horn of Plenty.
Both pieces can be dyed; of the chest piece, the dark wine red pieces will be affected, and of the back piece, only the straps. They cost 35 Farmers Faire Tokens each.

Cosmetics 2014: Summer Festival

This was the year of the colourful Wedmath Set: a Robe with a matching Cloak, with or without a hood. All items can be dyed; the dye will only affect the yellow background of the ornaments in the lower parts of the pieces.
Wedmath is the 8th month in the Shire calendar. It means “Weed-month”. Only a people fiercely dedicated to agriculture and horticulture could come up with that!

Cosmetics 2012: Farmers Faire

This year, we got another beautiful set: the Farmer’s Fancy Garments, which consist of a Dress, a Tunic and Trousers, and two cloaks: the Hooded Leather Cloak and the Farmer’s Hooded Cloak of the Harvest. All pieces are adorned with wheat ear ornaments. They cost 35 Farmers Faire Tokens each.

The Farmer’s Fancy Wide-brimmed Hat is of a greyish brown colour, but fits both outfits well!

I don’t know if they can drop in Understaddle (the festival quest-cave near Staddle) from the Cave-claw Dens, so look out for them!

And there were four pretty Handhelds (again, from left to right): Basket of Colourful Eggs, the Lantern, the Cornstalk, and the Basket of Freshly Picked Apples. These cost 35 Farmers Faire Tokens each and can be bought from Caltha Tunnelly. They can also drop from Cave-claw Dens in Understaddle, so you may want to wait to the last festival day until you buy them, hoping for drops!
The outfit worn here is the Shirt and Tunic of the Highland Pastures from 2026.

I can’t date the following very early cosmetics, so I’ll just put them here together.

The Summerdays Garments consist of a Dress, a Tunic and Trousers, a Cloak with or without a hood, and a Hat. All white parts and the Hat can be dyed. The pieces cost 45 Farmers Faire Tokens each.

Here are the Gardening Garments. This is a bit weird: the Gardening Gloves are invisible with the Gardener’s Apron, so I’m wearing them with the Sightseeer’s Jacket from the Spring Festival (which has a matching flower, too!) The Gardening Boots must be worn with the Apron or with very tight-fitting trousers, or the trousers will cut through them.
The pieces cost 35 Farmers Faire Tokens each.

The Ranger Green Summer Dress is available with long or short sleeves, or sleeveless, and the Summer Tunic and Trousers with long or short sleeves. The green parts can be dyed. The pieces cost 30 Farmers Faire Tokens each and can be bought from Dill Goodchild.

I don’t know if these two gorgeous cloaks originally belonged with the previous set, but they go beautifully with it - with a little dye. The Grey Summer Travelling Cloak and the Ashenslade Green Golden Tree Summer Cloak come only hood-less. The grey/green parts can be dyed. You could dye the set pieces or the cloaks; here, I dyed the set pieces in Grey / Ashenslade Green, and I quite like the result!

This was also the year we got the lovely Summer Hammock. Again, I’m making an exception, as normally I don’t show housing items but instead refer you to D&co du Milieu for them. But this is so special. It comes with two young trees, and you can actually sit and lie in it (although taller persons will have either their head or their feet awkwardly buried in the cushions - haha, Elves!) It costs 30 Farmers Faire Tokens.

It’s an old Summer Festival reward, so the barterer is Dill Goodchild.

Here is the Sleeveless Elven Tunic, which you can also buy at the Anniversary Festival. It’s not one of my favourites and looks horrible in the preview window, but not bad at all when actually worn - see for yourself! It’s an old Summer Festival reward and so is sold by Dill Goodchild, for 30 Farmers Faire Tokens.

This one is incredible. Do you know the Sun Hat? It’s Gandalf’s Hat, with the pipe stuck into it! It’s yours for 30 Farmers Faire Tokens and can be bought from Dill Goodchild.

This one is very old too: The Cloak of the Summer Sun. I haven’t found anything to go with it really, but it’s fun and makes me smile. You can buy it for 30 Farmers Faire Tokens and can be bought from Dill Goodchild.
